That’s why we like talking about things like exercise with our awesome customers. One interesting topic that’s come up on multiple occasions is essential oil blends. Given the increasing popularity of these blends to help with a variety of issues in people, it’s understandable why pet owners are curious if they can help dogs and cats in similar ways.

The short answer to that question is yes. There are a variety of essential oil blends that can benefit both dogs and cats. Before we get into the specific ways these oils can help, it’s important to mention that you should only use blends that are specifically formulated for pets. That includes avoiding perfume-grade oils. While keeping that in mind, here are some of the different uses for these oil blends that have been found to be safe and effective in pets:

Bug Repellant

Bug bites and parasites can be very annoying for both dogs and cats. If you want to keep these pests away but don’t want to lather your pet in chemicals, essential oils can provide a natural alternative. You’ll find a variety of blends for both dogs and cats. One difference between species is while citrus can work for dogs, it’s generally an ingredient you’ll want to avoid putting on your cat since it can cause feline skin irritation.

Welcoming Puppies and Kittens

As mentioned above, essential oils continue to gain popularity among humans. A great example of this is for assisting with births. The same use can work with new litters of puppies and kittens. It can help keep adult pets calmer during this often stressful time, and help recently born little ones adjust to their new surroundings.

Calm Travels

Of all the uses of essential oil blends in pets, the most commonly cited one is to use lavender oil to help keep a pet calm while traveling. This specific essential oil has also been linked to helping pets avoid car sickness.

Reducing Separation Anxiety

Another use for blends that include lavender is to help minimize the anxiety your pet feels when you have to leave the house. Depending on your pet, this anxiety may occur regularly or on certain occasions such as packing your suitcase for a trip.

Combating Bad Breath

Even with consistent brushing, plenty of pets still have breath that’s quite stinky. Pet essential oil blends optimized for digestion are a great way to combat this issue.
